Update on New Year’s Resolutions

Last month I decided to make five resolutions: save/invest aggressively, lose 10 to 15 pounds, read more investment books/financial blogs, spend time with the kiddo and of course golf more. All of these goals seem obtainable if I stay diligent and make myself accountable. Hopefully, if I track my progress each month on this blog it will motivate me to achieve the desired results.  Besides, I hate to fail!

Save and invest aggressively. I just recently invested $2,000 in General Electric (GE) and will continue to look for opportunities  each month. It is becoming increasingly hard to find those value stocks with the Stock Market hitting all-time highs, but I will continue to do my homework. The key is always keeping my budget under control, so I have the money to save and invest.

Lose 10 to 15 pounds. I weighed myself on January 1st and I was at 188 pounds. I have already cut back drastically on drinking Dr. Pepper and as a result the scale has become friendlier. I have lost 3 pounds so far. I am also watching how many calories I consume. I am trying to keep it around 2,000 to 2,200 per day. I am exercising nearly everyday with weights and light cardio. It is simply a start and we will see in time.

Read more investment books and financial blogs. I have not really read any investment books lately, but it is still early. I have the whole year ahead of me. I have been looking at the website Modest Money, which ranks several financial blogs and provides interesting articles. I am currently ranked #706, which is really not that good. I think they only have 750 spots.  At least I am ranked and not last. Positive thinking at its finest.  Also, I really enjoy reading Rockstar  Finance . I would strongly encourage others to explore both of these websites.

Always make time for my son and future kiddo on the way. My son is the light of my life and I always spend time with him. Last night we were playing with his new Star Wars toys. He also gets the tickle monster nearly every night. As for the future kiddo, we will find out on January 16th what the gender is.

Golf more. That has not happened yet. It has been way too cold for that. I absolutely hate this weather, but I guess we are doing better than the East Coast right now. Hopefully, I will have more chances to golf in a month or two.

Well, that is about it. I am just going to take one day at a time and we will see the results. Like anything, a person just have to be persistent and stay motivated. I fully understand that I may fall off the wagon from time to time, but I simply start over if that happens. Never give up! The greatest investment is in yourself.

How are your resolutions for the New Year going? If you did not officially set resolutions, what would you like to accomplish this year?

  1. What? You don’t want to golf in the winter??!!! LOL, just kidding.

One of my favorite bloggers is Cait Flanders and she does work for Rockstar Finance. I’ve got to start looking on there! And kudos to you for making that list! I will check out Modest Money as well.

Congrats on losing those first few pounds and starting to exercise more. This week has been so stressful at work I have not had the motivation to go to the gym, plus it seems so cold in the morning.

    1. I really enjoy Rockstar Finance and Modest Money. Staying motivated is the real challenge. Just one day at a time I guess. Thanks for the comment.
